GET TO KNOW
IAN BAKER
About
Mississippi is my home. I am proud that faith, family, and community still mean something here. My parents raised me in a Christian home, I was educated at a Christian university and law school (Mississippi College), and I currently serve as a Deacon at First Baptist Church Gulfport. I have been married to Alison (Bryant) Baker for 20 years, and together we are raising our three daughters to know and serve Jesus. Alison and I enjoy supporting our girls in their many activities, from attending band competitions and strings performances, cheer and gymnastics practices, and dance and piano recitals, to coaching their soccer teams, and hosting church youth events at our house. There is always something to keep us busy.
My commitment to service goes beyond work, church, and family. From 2019 to 2021, I served on the Board of Directors for Home of Grace Faith Based Addiction Recovery in Vancleave. Though my time on the board has concluded, I continue to be an active supporter and contributor to the ministry and mission of Home of Grace. I have seen first-hand the transformative power of Christ over the chains of addiction. I have also served the Mississippi Bar Association as a member of the Mississippi Bar Leadership Forum Class of 2011 and as the co-chair for the Young Lawyers Division Disaster Relief Committee in 2011-2012. I have served as a judge for the Mississippi High School Mock Trial Competition for many years and was a coach for the St. Patrick’s Catholic High School Mock Trial Team for the 2008-2009 school year.
In my free time, I enjoy deer hunting, target shooting, weight lifting, and watching football and baseball. I am a member of the Coast Rifle and Pistol Club (Biloxi, MS) and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. I am also a member of the Mississippi College “M” Club having been a 4 year letterman in football (offensive guard), and 2 year letterman in track & field (shot put and hammer throw). I believe my background as an athlete taught me the value of hard work, fair play, team work, and the ability to overcome adversity, all skills necessary for an appellate judge serving on our Court of Appeals. I would love the opportunity to speak with you personally about my background and experience, I look forward to seeing you out on the campaign trail, and I am asking for your vote on November 5th.
